SIRAJGANJ — The Anti-Corruption Commission has opened an inquiry into former Sirajganj-5 lawmaker Abdul Momin Mondol, 45, and his personal assistant Taj Uddin, 55, on allegations of irregularities, corruption and embezzlement of government project funds, officials said.
Shahidul Alam, deputy director of the commission’s integrated district office in Pabna, confirmed the inquiry to Jago News at noon Saturday, Dec. 20.
Anti-Corruption Commission sources said Mondol and his personal assistant, who is also president of the Chouhali police station unit of the Awami League, are accused of embezzling government money through irregularities and corruption and laundering it abroad. The commission has also received allegations that they accumulated a large amount of wealth in their own names and in the names of family members beyond their known sources of income, officials said. The commission has already begun its inquiry, the sources said.
Mondol was first elected to the Sirajganj-5 seat as an Awami League candidate in 2018. He was elected to a second term in the 12th national elections in 2024. But he lost his seat as a member of parliament after President Mohammad Sahabuddin dissolved the national parliament following the fall of the Awami League government in the student-led uprising.
