SIRAJGANJ — A mobile court in Sirajganj’s Kazipur upazila fined a trader Tk 20,000 on Sunday for selling fertilizer illegally, officials said.
The fine was imposed on Firoz Mahmud, 30, a pesticide seller and son of Badsha Mia of the Dhekuria Ekopark area. He was penalized at Messrs Bhai Bhai Traders in the Dhekuria Ekopark area of Maijbari union under the upazila during an hour-long operation that began at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, based on a confidential tip.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman led the raid. Authorities seized 83 kg of TSP, 90 kg of urea and 86 kg of MOP fertilizer from the shop, which were later auctioned to licensed fertilizer dealers for Tk 6,391.
The UNO told reporters the operation was conducted on the basis of confidential information. “Considering the humanitarian aspect after the trader’s frank confession and disclosure of the source of the offense, the fine was imposed under Section 8 of the Fertilizer (Management) Act, 2006,” he said.
