SIRAJGANJ, Bangladesh — A mobile court has fined an earth trader 70,000 taka for forging the signature of a former upazila executive officer (UNO) in Sirajganj’s Tarash upazila, officials said. A truck loaded with soil was also seized during the operation.
The accused, Mamun Hossain, is a resident of Sirajganj municipality. The operation was carried out at about 10 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 9) in Choupakia village of Naogaon union in the upazila.
The mobile court was conducted by Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Nusrat Jahan. She said Mamun had been forging the signature of former UNO Suiching Mong Marma to illegally extract soil from cropland with an excavator and sell it elsewhere. Officials confirmed the report on the spot, after which the mobile court was set up and the 70,000-taka fine was imposed. The drive will continue, she said.
