Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with India after two Pakistani civilians were killed by fire from India’s Border Security Force (BSF). India’s acting high commissioner in Islamabad was summoned on Saturday to receive the protest.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said Azmat Rasool Shah and Mohsin Jatt were killed and another person was injured by gunfire near the border in the Bedian sector on Friday. Pakistan says the victims were unarmed and were shot at even though they had not tried to cross the border.
Calling the incident an “unprovoked use of lethal force”, Pakistan demanded a transparent and credible investigation and legal action against those responsible. Islamabad also urged India to abide by international law and border protocols to prevent such incidents in future.
Pakistan said it rejects any attempt to label those killed as “infiltrators”.
