Four militants have been killed in several security force operations in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, and an army major was killed in a bomb blast during the operations, Dawn reported.

Pakistan’s military media wing gave the details on Monday, 19 October.

In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the operations were carried out on information about several hideouts of the armed group “Fitna al-Hindustan” in the Shadi Kaur and Pasni areas of Gwadar district and the Jattakabad area of Kalat district.

Pakistan’s government uses the name “Fitna al-Hindustan” for several Balochistan-based groups. It says the name is meant to point to what it calls India’s role in terrorism and instability in Pakistan.

According to ISPR, the first operation was carried out on 18 October in the Jattakabad area of Kalat district. Four militants were killed in the intelligence-based operation, and a large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the site, the military said.

In a second round of searches and operations in the Shadi Kaur and Pasni areas of Gwadar district, Major Wajahat Wahid, 34, was killed by a planted bomb while leading the operation. He was from Lahore.

ISPR said he was killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at the site went off.

The military said search and security operations would continue in the area to make sure no other militants were hiding there.

The statement said counter-terrorism operations would continue at full pace under “Azm-e-Istehkam”, the campaign approved by the federal apex committee under the National Action Plan.

The military said the security forces and law enforcement agencies were committed to eliminating what it called foreign-sponsored terrorism.
