One dead in clash over goat in crop field in Naogaon

Abul Kashem, 60, has died after a clash sparked by a goat straying into a bitter gourd field in Dhamoirhat, Naogaon.

Police arrested seven people from different areas under Panchbibi police station in raids early on Saturday (3 October). The clash between the groups of Abul Kashem and Rony broke out on Friday afternoon in Barashibpur (Masterpara) village of the upazila, where Abul Kashem lived.

Those arrested, all of Barashibpur (Masterpara), are Rakibul Islam, 28; Abdul Hakim, 60; Kafil Uddin, 65; Aklima Begum, 35; Hamida Begum, 38; Farida Begum, 50; and Jiasmin Begum, 21.

According to police and the case, there has been a long-running dispute between the groups of Abul Kashem and Rakibul Islam Rony. On Friday afternoon a goat got into a bitter gourd field, and the two sides clashed. Several people on both sides were injured and admitted to Joypurhat Sadar Hospital, where Abul Kashem died while being treated.

Police made the arrests after Abul Kashem’s son, Abu Sayeed Hossain, filed a case the same day.
