Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered a closure of the entire occupied West Bank after a gunfight in the city of Hebron. The order was given on Friday morning.
Shortly before, the Israeli military said it had killed two Palestinian gunmen. It said the gunmen had attacked a reserve battalion.
Netanyahu told the security forces to seal off Hebron immediately and prepare a closure of the whole West Bank. Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, called for Israel to take full control of the West Bank and dissolve the Palestinian Authority.
Meanwhile, amid rising violence by Israeli troops and settlers in the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 36 Palestinians in raids on several areas on Thursday. Attacks on Palestinian farmers have also increased, including blocking access to their land, looting olives and farm equipment, and cutting down or burning trees.
The attacks on Palestinian farmers in the West Bank have also raised international concern.
