Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Iran is ready to give diplomacy another chance if the United States shows sincerity about building trust and reaching a fair solution. He warned that renewed US military action would bring the United States an even greater strategic failure.

In a post on his X account, Araghchi stressed that Tehran still keeps the path to a diplomatic solution open, but that Iran will not accept fresh aggression in place of a genuine negotiating process.

He wrote that Iran is ready to give diplomacy another chance if it sees strong evidence of a sincere US will to build trust and reach a fair solution. But if the United States chooses war over diplomacy, he wrote, it will certainly lead to an even greater strategic failure.

With the post he linked to his latest opinion article in the Financial Times, which sets out Iran’s position on the conflict, the prospects for talks and the consequences of continued US military threats.

In the article, published on Wednesday, Araghchi restated Iran’s readiness to reach a dignified and lasting diplomatic solution, and said Iran is determined to defend its sovereignty and independence.

He argued that Washington had destroyed trust by taking military action again and again during negotiations. Despite a seven-day plan Iran proposed through mediators to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, he said, the United States had shown little interest in reaching a meaningful agreement.

The foreign minister also pointed to the economic cost of the conflict for American families. In his view, the US administration had failed to properly weigh the consequences of its military campaign.

Araghchi said Iran’s strategic position beside the Strait of Hormuz gives it considerable influence over international shipping, and that Iran will keep its historic role in the waterway.

He also made clear that while Iran is ready for diplomacy, Washington would face an even greater strategic defeat if it used military force again.
