At least 50 people were killed and more than 200 injured in a Houthi missile attack on a training centre in Yemen on Monday. Yemen’s internationally recognised government said three ballistic missiles struck a training camp for new security personnel in Shabwa. Saying the site had no link to any battlefield, it called it a “terrorist” attack. The Houthis give a different account.

They said they carried out the strike on a gathering of Saudi-backed forces and that Saudi officers were among the dead. They warned Yemenis to stay away from such camps. The Houthis are not backing down: their military spokesman said they were continuing to fire more missiles deep into Saudi Arabia.

With attacks rising inside their own borders, Yemenis fear the war is now coming closer to them. Both sides are threatening to step up their attacks, and Saudi Arabia has increased its air strikes, raising fears that the civil war will spread across Yemen.
