Monija Khatun, 80, has been killed after being hit by a truck carrying concrete for a road under construction in Companiganj, Noakhali. The accident happened on Sunday morning (4 October) in front of the Rahim Uddin Jame Mosque in Ward 7 of Habibpur village, Sirajpur union. She was the widow of the late Sayedul Haque of the area.
Citing local people, police said she was walking home from Habibpur bazar in the morning when the truck, used to carry concrete for repairs to the village road, hit her, killing her on the spot. The driver and his helper fled, but local people held the truck and called police on the national emergency number 999.
Companiganj police station officer-in-charge Md Nurul Hakim confirmed the incident and said legal action would be taken on receiving a written complaint.
