Online birth and death registration has been shut for six days. The Office of the Registrar General took the decision to carry out maintenance on BDRIS, the registration software. Students and parents fear they will struggle to get the service. The office announced the closure in a recent notice.

The parent of one student said on Wednesday that the child needs a birth registration to be admitted to school. “With the service closed for six days, we are stuck,” the parent said.

Another student said the closure had caused some trouble, as their birth registration certificate needed a correction.

The notice says all birth and death registration services will be closed from 6pm on 19 October to 6am on 25 October.

The online service has been suspended temporarily so that the software maintenance can be completed, the notice says.

With online birth and death registration closed for this period, people who need the service have been advised to plan around the schedule.
