Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has claimed the entire West Bank as Israeli territory. In a recent interview he said there was no difference between Areas A, B and C, the zones set up under the Oslo Accords, and that all of the land belongs to Israel.
He said that if he became defence minister he would dismantle the Palestinian Authority and act to force Palestinians out of the West Bank and Gaza.
The more soldiers are allowed to shoot, the fewer soldiers are needed, he said, adding that if given the post he would lift all restrictions on troops.
Analysts say Ben-Gvir is making such extreme and provocative remarks to win over hardline voters ahead of Israel’s election on 27 October.
