TEHRAN, Sept. 26 — Iran will not retreat from enriching uranium up to 60 percent. Mohammad Saleh Jokar, chair of the Iranian parliament’s internal affairs and councils committee, made the remarks, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.
Jokar said enriching uranium at different levels is a legitimate and basic right of the Iranian people.
He said Iran does not want to build nuclear weapons. But the country wants to continue using nuclear science in industry, medicine, agriculture and energy production.
Jokar said claims that Iran does not need 60 percent uranium enrichment are exactly what enemies want.
He also said the Iranian people’s right to uranium enrichment must be protected.
