Three more people have died of dengue across the country in the past 24 hours, and 580 new dengue patients have been hospitalised in the same period.
The information came in a dengue press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services on Monday (3 August).
Of those hospitalised in the past 24 hours, it said, 81 were in Barishal division, 79 in Chattogram division, 125 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 59 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 78 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 67 in Khulna division, 36 in Mymensingh division, 22 in Rajshahi division, 31 in Rangpur division and two in Sylhet division.
The health directorate said 16,684 people had been infected with dengue so far this year, 62.2 percent of them male and 37.8 percent female.
A total of 15,344 people have recovered and left hospital this year.
With the latest deaths, the dengue toll this year has risen to 59, the directorate said.
