CHATTOGRAM — DAP Fertilizer Co. (DAPFCL) resumed production after an 18-day shutdown caused by an ammonia shortage, the company said. The fertilizer plant in Anwara, Chattogram, restarted operations around 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, a day after Karnaphuli Fertilizer Co. (KAFCO) resumed production.
Managing Director Mohammad Moinul Haque confirmed the restart. He said ammonia supply to DAPFCL began returning to normal after KAFCO resumed production on the afternoon of May 2. After several days of ammonia stockpiling and technical preparation, production restarted at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Haque said the plant can produce about 600 to 700 tonnes of urea per day when operating normally. DAPFCL had halted production on April 18 because of the ammonia shortage.
DAP Fertilizer Co. Ltd., which operates under the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corp. (BCIC) of the Ministry of Industries, began commercial DAP fertilizer production in 2006 after construction of the plant was completed.
