RANGPUR — Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said the country faces many problems along its border and that new ones are emerging, urging the public to confront them with courage.

“We have many problems at the border. More new problems are looming,” Rahman, who is also the opposition leader, said at a public gathering in Rangpur on Friday afternoon. “We pray to Allah for help so that we can face these problems with valor.”

The Jamaat chief said his party loves the country and wants to serve it. “We love this country. We want to do something for this country. We believe this country will change one day. And it is because we love this country that we did not leave it for anywhere else,” he said.

Rahman said party members must carry out their responsibilities properly. “Perhaps Allah is testing us by keeping us in the opposition. We must be victorious in this test,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Rahman arrived in Rangpur at 9 a.m. on a one-day visit. Metropolitan police gave him a guard of honor at the circuit house.
