Parent enters classroom and beats three students in Barisal

A parent is accused of entering a classroom at Charbaria Government Primary School in Barisal and beating three fifth-grade students after a dispute between his son and his classmates. He also assaulted two teachers who tried to stop him, police and school officials said.

The incident occurred around noon on Tuesday. The three injured students were admitted to Barisal General Hospital.

The accused, Abu Jafar, has a son named Mashrafi who is a fifth-grade student at the same school. A verbal altercation had occurred between Mashrafi and some classmates a few days earlier. Abu Jafar went to the school and attacked the students over the dispute, teachers and locals said.

Assistant teacher Rafiqul Islam said Mashrafi told his father about the argument, and on Tuesday around noon Abu Jafar entered the fifth-grade classroom and beat students Sanim, Abhi Sheel, and Shahadat Hossain. When class teacher Shahin Hossain and teacher Mohiuddin tried to intervene, they were also assaulted.

Local ward UP member Jahidul Alam Tuhin said Abu Jafar entered the classroom and beat three students. When teachers tried to stop him, they too were assaulted.

Kaunia police station OC Sanjit Chandra Nath confirmed the incident and said police arrived at the scene but Abu Jafar had already fled. A case is being prepared.

District Primary Education Officer Mohammad Mostafa Kamal said he is aware of the incident and that an investigation is under way with appropriate legal measures being taken.
