Jashore’s district police administration has launched an all-out drive to keep the law-and-order situation normal at any cost and to firmly suppress terrorists, extortionists and drug dealers. To restore public calm and send a clear message to criminals, the law-enforcement agencies staged an organised joint drill across the city on Wednesday night.

The drill began at around 8pm from the grounds of the Jashore deputy commissioner’s office. It then moved through the city — via Palbari, the Chanchra checkpost, Monihar Mor, the High Court Mor, New Market, the Chuadanga bus stand, Doratana, the railway station, Mujib Road, the PTI Mor and Police Lines, among other points — before ending on Paris Road.

Those present at the coordinated drill included Additional Deputy Commissioner Kamalesh Majumder; Jashore Sadar upazila nirbahi officer Shahriar Haque; Additional Superintendent of Police (crime and operations) Mirajul Islam; Additional SP (finance and administration) Rajibul Islam; Additional SP (DSB) Shakhawat Hossain; Additional SP (Ka-Circle) Ahsan Habib; Additional SP (probation) Raisul Islam; the additional SP of the RAB-6 Jashore camp; and the additional director of Jashore district Ansar and VDP, Abir Rahman, along with other senior district administration officials.

During the drill, mobile courts were run at several sensitive points alongside overall security arrangements.

Additional SP (Ka-Circle) Ahsan Habib said multi-pronged steps had been taken to keep Jashore’s overall law-and-order situation normal and to ensure the safety of ordinary people. Special police operations had been stepped up across the district, he said, and the joint drill and mobile courts were being run at field level to make the drive more effective and to give a firm warning to miscreants. The administration’s tough stance against crime would continue, he added.
