Remittances jump 37.5% in first 13 days of May

DHAKA — Bangladesh received $1.74 billion in remittances during the first 13 days of May, up 37.5% from $1.27 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to updated Bangladesh Bank data released Thursday.

On Wednesday, May 13, alone, expatriate Bangladeshis sent home $138 million, the central bank said.

From July 1 to May 13 of the 2025-26 fiscal year, total remittance inflows reached $31.08 billion, compared with $25.81 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year. That represents 20.4% growth so far this fiscal year.
