The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) is beginning the nationwide collection of farmer and farmland data to implement the “Farmer Card” programme announced in the government’s election manifesto. The work begins simultaneously in all upazilas of the country from Saturday. Initially, one block will be selected per upazila for data collection, later expanded to all blocks in phases.

The directive came in an office order signed by DAE director general Md Abdur Rahim. It said that, in line with a decision taken at the second meeting of the “Farmer Card Technical Working Committee,” chaired by the agriculture minister at the agriculture ministry the same day, farmer and land data would be collected simultaneously in every upazila. The order said collection would begin in one selected block per upazila in the first phase, then expand to all other blocks based on the experience of this pilot. To implement it successfully, officials and staff assigned to data collection were to be trained on using a “data collection app” between 14 and 18 July, with field collection of farmer and farmland data beginning on 18 July.

The order called on all DAE directors, additional directors, deputy directors and upazila agriculture officers to make the necessary preparations and act quickly as directed, calling the matter very urgent and ordering the data collection completed within the set time. According to officials, an accurate, integrated database of farmers would make it easier to implement the government’s promised “Farmer Card,” allowing genuine farmers to be identified and agricultural incentives, subsidies, loans and other government services delivered more quickly, transparently and effectively.
