LONDON — A fire broke out at RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom, a base used by the US Air Force during the war against Iran, in the early hours of Sunday local time.
No casualties were reported and no RAF aircraft were damaged. The fire is believed to have started in an old, abandoned building. The extent of damage to US Air Force equipment is not yet known.
A video showed smoke rising from the base’s commissary building. Commissaries on military bases are stores that supply food and equipment. Other images from the scene showed the building’s roof collapsing as fire crews battled the blaze.
A spokesperson for the Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service said personnel were responding to a fire at a commercial building in the Fairford area. Local residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed because of the smoke.
