Government to buy 10,000 tonnes of lentils

The government has approved a proposal to procure 10,000 metric tonnes of lentils at a total cost of about 82 crore 54 lakh taka, to keep market prices stable and ensure uninterrupted supply of essential goods across the country. The approval came on Wednesday (10 June) at the 26th meeting of the cabinet committee on government purchases at the Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Officials said the lentils will be bought at 82 taka 54 paisa per kilogram and supplied in 50 kg sacks for ease of storage and distribution. The commerce ministry presented the proposal. Following an open tender process, the work order was awarded to Nabil Naba Foods Limited, located at the Nabil Industrial Park at Bherapora Bazar in Daukandi of Rajshahi’s Paba upazila. Officials added that the procurement is part of the government’s continuing efforts to maintain adequate stocks of essentials, control excessive price rises and protect consumers’ interests.
