Human chain and protest by potato farmers and traders
Potato farmers and traders have held a human chain and protest rally, blocking the Rangpur-Dhaka highway to protest a hike in cold-storage rents for storing potatoes. They blocked the road for an hour at the Modern Mor area of the city on Wednesday afternoon. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway, and passengers were put to suffering.
More than 500 farmers and traders took part in the program, held under the banner of the district potato farmers and traders association. They also staged a symbolic protest by throwing potatoes onto the highway. Among those who spoke were the district potato farmers and traders association president Toyebur Rahman, general secretary Bishwajit Banik, vice-president Abdun Noor, district Krishak Dal convener Anwar Sadat and member secretary Dil Merajul Dulu.
