Five more children die with measles and symptoms; 1,025 infected

Five more children died across the country in the past 24 hours with measles or measles-like symptoms. During the same period, 1,025 people were newly recorded with measles or its symptoms.

The Directorate General of Health Services reported the figures in its regular measles report on Wednesday (August 12).

The DGHS said two children died in Sylhet division with measles-like symptoms in the past day. Two more children—one each in Dhaka and Barishal divisions—also died with symptoms. In addition, one person died in Rajshahi division after contracting measles. In total, 885 people have died nationwide from measles and symptoms since March 15 through Wednesday, including 786 deaths involving symptoms and 99 involving confirmed measles.

Nationwide, 84 new measles cases were detected in the past 24 hours, while 941 more people showed symptoms. Since March 15 through Wednesday, 139,125 people have shown measles symptoms and 17,469 confirmed cases have been recorded.

According to the DGHS report, 121,013 people have been hospitalised nationwide with measles or symptoms since March 15 through Wednesday. Of them, 116,827 have recovered and been discharged.
