Ten more children have died of measles or suspected measles in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, pushing the nationwide toll from the outbreak to 555, the Directorate General of Health Services said.
The figures were released Tuesday afternoon by the directorate’s Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room.
The report said one confirmed measles death and nine suspected measles deaths were recorded between 8 a.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Since March 15, 88 people have died of confirmed measles and 467 of suspected measles, according to the directorate. Over the same period, 8,772 confirmed cases and 66,023 suspected cases have been reported, and 52,530 people have been admitted to hospitals. A total of 48,800 have recovered and returned home.
By division, Dhaka has recorded the most confirmed measles deaths at 52, followed by Barishal with 19, Chattogram with 10, Sylhet with 3, and Mymensingh and Rajshahi with 2 each.
Dhaka also leads in suspected measles deaths with 184. Rajshahi has recorded 83, Sylhet 54, Chattogram 44, Mymensingh 40, Barishal 35, Khulna 21 and Rangpur 6.
