Three more children died of measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours. However, no one died of confirmed measles during this period. This brings the total number of deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms so far this year to 933.
The figures were disclosed in the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) regular measles-situation report Sunday, August 23. The notice said three more children died of measles-like symptoms in the country over the past 24 hours, though no child died of confirmed measles. A further 1,228 children were newly infected.
That brings the total number of children who have died with measles-like symptoms nationwide since March 15 to 834, with a further 99 children who died of confirmed measles. In other words, a combined 933 children have died of measles or measles-like symptoms during this period.
In addition, 131 children were confirmed to have measles in the past 24 hours, while the number of patients with measles-like symptoms stood at 1,097. During this period, 1,026 children were newly admitted to hospitals, while 824 children were discharged. DGHS data show that the total number of suspected measles cases from March 15 to date stands at 149,503, with 18,404 confirmed cases. Of these, 130,609 patients in total have been hospitalized, of whom 125,975 have already been discharged and returned home.
