Four more children have died with measles symptoms in the country over the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). In the same period, 1,137 children were infected with measles or measles-like symptoms. The information came in the DGHS’s updated measles report on Sunday afternoon, which recorded the deaths and infections between 8am Saturday and 8am Sunday.
The DGHS said that although four children died with measles symptoms in the past 24 hours, no child died from confirmed measles.
Since 15 March, 748 children have died nationwide with measles symptoms, while another 96 have died from confirmed measles in the same period, bringing the combined death toll from measles and measles-like symptoms to 844.
In the past 24 hours, measles was newly detected in 115 children, while 1,022 patients had measles-like symptoms. Over the same period, 946 children were newly admitted to hospital and 886 were discharged after treatment.
According to the DGHS, the total number of suspected measles patients from 15 March to date stands at 1,30,083 (130,083), of whom 16,295 are confirmed measles cases. In the same period, a total of 1,12,620 (112,620) patients were admitted to hospital, of whom 1,08,283 (108,283) returned home after treatment.
