Six more children die of measles symptoms, toll reaches 908

Six more children have died of measles-related symptoms in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 908. The information was disclosed in the Directorate General of Health Services’ measles bulletin on Sunday.

The health directorate said six more children died of measles symptoms in the past 24 hours, with 1,101 new patients reported during the same period.

According to the health directorate, of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 80 were confirmed as measles through laboratory testing, while the remaining 1,021 children were hospitalized with various measles-related symptoms.

Statistical analysis shows that from March 15 this year through August 16, 809 children nationwide have died with measles-related symptoms. An additional 99 deaths have been confirmed as measles cases. Altogether, 908 children have tragically died from measles and related symptoms over these five months.

The daily bulletin said that alongside new cases in the past 24 hours, another 963 children were admitted to hospitals across the country. During the same period, 850 patients recovered and were discharged. As a result, doctors and health workers continue to face significant pressure managing hospital admissions and treatment.

According to the health directorate’s overall figures, the total number of suspected measles patients since March 15 stands at 142,797. Of these, 17,880 have been confirmed as measles cases through testing. During this period, a total of 124,457 children with confirmed or suspected cases were hospitalized, of whom 119,939 have completed treatment and been discharged.

Health experts say the number of new cases and hospital admission rates remain quite high. In particular, the continuing trend of child deaths from measles symptoms has become a major source of concern for the health sector. Doctors are recommending intensified vaccination campaigns and prompt treatment to bring the situation under control.
