Five more children die of measles symptoms; 1,069 new cases

Five more children have died of measles symptoms in the country over the past 24 hours. In the same period, 922 people were affected by measles symptoms and 147 were confirmed to have measles — 1,069 new measles patients in all. By official count, a total of 793 children have died from 15 March to now, of whom 95 died of confirmed measles and the other 698 of measles symptoms. The total number affected so far is 1,33,148 children. The information came in a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services’ control room on Monday.

The release said that from 15 March to 8am on 20 July, 1,18,570 children had been found with suspected measles symptoms, while 14,578 confirmed measles patients had been found so far. In that period, 1,01,026 children were hospitalised with measles symptoms, and 97,532 children have recovered and been discharged.

The health directorate said that of the 5 children who died in the past 24 hours, 3 were from Sylhet division and one each from the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions. In the same period, the highest number of measles-symptom patients — 358 — were found in the Dhaka division, of whom 90 were confirmed measles cases.
