A supervisor at an orphanage in Islampur, Jamalpur, has been accused of withdrawing about Tk6 lakh in capitation grants by forging the president’s signature. The institution’s president has submitted written complaints to the upazila nirbahi officer and the Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to the complaint, capitation-grant money from the Department of Social Services was allocated for 22 students of the Benuar Char Ashraful Ulum Hafezia Madrasa and Abdul Malek Mondal Orphanage in Char Putimari Union. The complaint alleges that supervisor Anwar Hossain withdrew about Tk6 lakh through three bills over 21 months by forging the signature of president Shamsuzzaman Suruj Master.
When the president learned of the matter and asked why his signature had been forged, the supervisor allegedly said he had spoken to the president and signed because the bills needed to be withdrawn quickly. The president alleges that the supervisor later made excuses when asked to account for the withdrawn money.
On August 10, the president submitted written complaints to the UNO and ACC seeking an investigation and legal action.
Responding to the allegation, supervisor Anwar Hossain said he had signed the bills and withdrawn the money after speaking with the president because the president was absent.
Ruhul Amin, the official holding additional charge at the upazila social services office, said an investigation had been ordered following the complaint. Upazila nirbahi officer Md Zobayer said the social services officer had been assigned to investigate and that legal action would be taken if the allegation was proven.
