Deputy Speaker and Netrokona-1 (Durgapur-Kalmakanda) lawmaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal has vowed to keep educational institutions completely free of political influence, saying no political party leader should be allowed to sit on a school’s managing committee. Retired teachers should instead be added to these committees so their experience can be put to use, he said.

Kaiser Kamal made the remarks as chief guest at a farewell reception for retired secondary-level teachers, titled “Farewell Reception-2026,” held Sunday afternoon, August 24, at the Netrokona district council auditorium in Durgapur. The event was organized by the Durgapur upazila unit of the Bangladesh Teachers’ Association.

Sharply criticizing what he called the culture of partisan politicization in recent years, the deputy speaker said school managing committees hold certain powers that are often politically misused. “Those who want to do politics have union or ward committees for that,” he said.

Speaking on the dignity of the teaching profession, Kaiser Kamal said: “A teacher remains a teacher for life. Until the day before their death, they are held in the highest respect by society as ‘sir’ or ‘madam.’”

Referring to Prime Minister Tareque Rahman’s nationwide state-repair program, he said the prime minister was working 18 to 20 hours a day for the country as “everyone’s prime minister,” and that his reform initiatives should be viewed above partisan considerations.

The event was chaired by A.K.M. Fazlul Haque, acting president of the Durgapur upazila unit of the Bangladesh Teachers’ Association. Special guests included Netrokona Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Munmun Jahan Liza, Durgapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ahmed Sadat, and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Bazlur Rahman Ansari, among others. The event concluded with the presentation of honorary crests and gifts to the retiring teachers.
