The Public Works Department, the University of Dhaka, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have carried out a joint drive to evict illegal structures and shops from Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
The drive was conducted on Sunday afternoon under the leadership of the Dhaka South City Corporation executive magistrate, Mohammad Aminul Islam. During the drive all illegal structures and shops inside Suhrawardy Udyan were removed and the park area completely cleared.
Members of the University of Dhaka’s proctorial body, the executive engineer of the Public Works Department’s Dhaka city division, Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, and an adequate number of members of the law enforcement agencies were present during the drive.
It was announced that the DSCC’s eviction drive will continue in future in the public interest and to maintain the normal environment of the park.
