Police have arrested two people and recovered three stolen motorcycles in raids in Saidpur, Nilphamari.
They were arrested in separate raids in Saidpur town and the upazila on Tuesday morning (September 29).
The arrested are Shahriar Islam Farhad, 25, son of the late Zahurul Islam of the Dhalagachh Sardarpara area, and Sabbir Hossain, 28, son of Motahar Hossain of Harishchandrapur village in Chirirbandar upazila, Dinajpur.
Police say Sabbir Hossain is directly involved with a motorcycle theft ring, while initial information suggests Farhad bought stolen motorcycles and kept them in his possession.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Sabbir Hossain in the Parbatipur Road area of Saidpur town on Tuesday morning. Based on information he gave, they raided Shahriar Islam Farhad’s house in the Matir More area, recovering three stolen motorcycles and arresting Farhad.
“Initial questioning of the two arrested has produced information about their involvement in motorcycle theft and in buying and selling stolen motorcycles. They have been sent to court. The recovered motorcycles are being checked,” said Rezaul Karim Reza, officer-in-charge of the police station.
“Police drives to prevent motorcycle theft and recover stolen vehicles in Saidpur are continuing. Offenders will be identified and brought to justice. We are also looking into whether anyone else is involved with those detained,” the OC said.
