JAMALPUR — A Polish woman has traveled some 6,500 kilometers (about 4,040 miles) to settle in Jamalpur’s Madarganj with her Bangladeshi husband, drawing wide interest in the village.

Weronika Maria Pitlars, a Polish citizen, arrived early Friday with her husband at Katlamari village in the upazila’s Gunaritola union. The couple’s arrival generated considerable curiosity and discussion in the area.

According to local accounts, Ismail, the son of Iman Ali of Katlamari, has lived in Poland for 16 years. He met Pitlars there, and the relationship deepened over time before they married.

Ismail recently returned to his birthplace in Madarganj with his wife. Neighbors crowded the family’s home to see the foreign bride, with many offering congratulations and prayers for the couple’s new life.

Local residents said the love story between two people from different countries and cultures had created excitement in the area. Family members had warmly welcomed the foreign daughter-in-law of their expatriate son, they said.

Pitlars declined to give a video interview, citing personal privacy, so no formal statement could be recorded.

A festive mood has taken hold in Katlamari village around the foreign daughter-in-law’s arrival, with many residents calling it a remarkable example of love.
