A clash has broken out between two groups over the tying of a bamboo frame to dry jute in Salta, Faridpur. Several homes and a shop were vandalised in the incident.
At least 10 people from both sides were injured in the clash. Several of the seriously injured have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The clash took place around 8pm on Friday in Jugikanda village of Majhardia union in the upazila.
According to local sources, Habibur Rahman, a supporter of Hobi Member, tied a bamboo frame to dry jute in front of a mosque beside the home of Bashir Matubbar in Jugikanda village. When this obstructed worshippers coming to pray at the mosque, they took the frame down.
Over this, Hobi Member’s supporters blamed Bashir Matubbar for removing the frame. At one point they tried to attack Bashir Matubbar’s house, and people from both sides gathered. Amid an exchange of words, a clash then broke out.

Habibur Rahman, the supporter of Hobi Member, said: “I have learned that a clash took place over the tying of the jute frame. Beyond that I know nothing.” On the injured, he said four or five people from their group were hurt.
Bashir Matubbar said: “Although I had no connection with removing the bamboo frame, I was blamed and my house was attacked. Several people, including my wife, were injured. My wife is currently admitted to hospital.”
Salta police station officer-in-charge (OC) Bablur Rahman said: “On receiving news, I reached the scene. The situation is now calm. If a complaint is received, legal action will be taken after investigation.”
