Former deputy governor S K Sur jailed for three years

A court has sentenced the former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank, Sitangshu Kumar Sur, also known as S K Sur Chowdhury, to three years in prison for failing to submit a statement of his assets. The judge of the Second Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka, Ayesha Nasrin, delivered the verdict on Tuesday.

S K Sur was brought to court from Keraniganj Central Jail at about 9.30am that day. He was brought into the courtroom at about 10.45am and kept in the dock. The court then delivered its verdict.

The Anti-Corruption Commission arrested the former deputy governor of the central bank from the Segunbagicha area of the capital on 14 January 2025. He has been in jail since.
