A set of directives has been issued to ensure full attendance among officials and staff at government health institutions and hospitals nationwide. Biometric facial-recognition technology has been ordered installed to ensure full attendance among health cadre officials and health workers.

The directive was issued in a letter from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday, August 20. The initiative follows decisions made at a meeting reviewing progress on directives the prime minister gave during a visit to the Health Services Division.

The letter said these decisions were made at a meeting held August 16 (Sunday) at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s conference room, reviewing progress on the directives the prime minister gave during that visit.

The directive said biometric machines installed at all health institutions and hospitals under DGHS must be kept operational and functioning. Alongside ensuring regular biometric attendance for officials and staff, biometric facial-recognition technology must also be introduced in phases.

The directive places particular emphasis on ensuring full attendance of doctors and health workers at their workplaces. Officials responsible for income and expenditure at the relevant health institutions have been told to issue salary payments to doctors and health workers only after confirming their attendance.

It further states that if any doctor or health worker is absent from their workplace, their salary payment cannot be issued until the matter of their absence is resolved. All health institutions and hospitals under DGHS have also been told to send weekly e-attendance reports for officials and staff to the DGHS director (administration).
