Protesting students have announced a three-point demand, including the resignation of Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon, an apology to the nation and the publication of a new schedule for the HSC examinations. They set an ultimatum until 6 p.m. on Tuesday (July 14) for the demands to be implemented. City College examinee Md Miraj Hosen made the announcement on behalf of the protesting students in the capital’s Science Laboratory area at about 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

He said the education minister must resign by 6 p.m. and apologise to the nation for his “inconsistent” remarks. He also demanded that the July 13 examinations be held again, taking into account those who sat exams in adverse conditions and those who could not sit them at all. Another of the students’ demands was that the upcoming scheduled examinations be cancelled and a new exam routine published, along with making the standard of the question papers student-friendly.

Earlier, at about 3:45 p.m., students began a sit-in in the Science Laboratory area, halting traffic on the road and causing severe congestion in surrounding areas. During the sit-in, students chanted various slogans demanding the education minister’s resignation. They complained that although the movement had continued since the morning, no one from the government had yet come to talk to them.
