BNP lawmaker Joynal Abdin Faruk has asked that it be verified whether bowing the head to enter parliament is contrary to Islam. He made the request during the parliament session on Wednesday.
Joynal Abdin Faruk said: “I have seen the parliaments of many countries of the world. There is a practice of bowing the head to enter. But I am requesting that we be told whether the matter is contrary to Islam.” Meanwhile, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told parliament that the country’s 75 prisons are currently holding 1.7 times their capacity in inmates.
He gave the information on Wednesday in reply to a starred question tabled by NCP member Md Abul Hasnat of the Cumilla-4 constituency.
The minister said: “According to data received up to June 7, the country’s 75 prisons currently hold a total of 77,040 inmates (74,036 men + 2,077 women) against a total approved capacity of 45,136 (43,107 men + 2,029 women), which is 1.7 times the capacity.”
