PM orders reform of press ‘black laws’

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the reform of various “black laws” imposed on newspapers and the media over the past 17 years, and steps are being taken to review and reform them, the prime minister’s additional press secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said. He made the remarks at a news conference marking five months since the BNP government took office, held at around 3:30pm on Saturday (18 July) in the “Korobi” hall of the prime minister’s Tejgaon office.

Present were the prime minister’s adviser and prime minister’s office spokesman Mahdi Amin, press secretary Saleh Shibli, additional press secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon and other members of the prime minister’s press wing. After being elected in the 13th parliamentary election, the BNP government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman took office on 17 February, and the news conference was held to mark five months of the government.
