Two boys have drowned while swimming in the Sutia River in Sripur, Gazipur. The accident occurred around noon Wednesday, August 26, in the Bapta-Beldia area of the upazila’s Kaoraid union.
The two boys, both 11, were fifth-grade students at Bapta-Beldia Government Primary School.
Citing family members and local residents, Sripur police sub-inspector Abul Bashar said the two boys went swimming with several friends in the Sutia River near their homes after a school program marking Eid-e-Miladunnabi (peace be upon him). One of them, being inexperienced at swimming, grabbed onto the other, and the two were pulled underwater together.
Other children who were with them screamed for help, and family members and local residents rushed to the scene, pulled them out, and took them to Sripur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared them dead.
