The International Crimes Tribunal has set September 3 as the next hearing date in the crimes against humanity case concerning the May 5, 2013, Hefazat-e-Islam rally and killings at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel, which names deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 40 others as accused.
International Crimes Tribunal-2 issued the order Sunday regarding the special hearing.
Nine defendants arrested in the case were produced before the International Crimes Tribunal this morning. The court also ordered that two additional arrested defendants, along with 11 others, be produced on September 3.
Formal charges against Sheikh Hasina and 40 others in the case were filed on July 27. The tribunal took cognizance of the formal charges the same day, and today’s date was set for the subsequent hearing, which took place as scheduled.
A list of 61 people killed in the Shapla Chattar incident has been compiled so far, of whom 58 have been identified.
