The family of Abu Sayed has called for swift enforcement of the International Crimes Tribunal verdict in his killing case and for the completion of trials in other July uprising killings.
His parents and other relatives said they trusted the government and the tribunal to complete the cases and enforce verdicts, according to the report.
Abu Sayed, a student at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, was killed by police gunfire on July 16, 2024, during an Anti-Discrimination Student Movement protest outside the university’s No. 1 gate, the report says.
His father said the family had not found peace since his death and wanted to see those convicted in the case punished before his own death. His mother said the family could not bear the pain until the verdict was enforced.
His brothers and former student coordinators called for the tribunal’s ruling to be implemented promptly and for trials in other July uprising killing cases to be completed.
The article reports that Abu Sayed was the youngest of six brothers and had three sisters. It says his death became a symbol of the July uprising, a characterization made by people quoted in the report.
