The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized banned current nets worth about 50.3 million taka (5.03 crore) in a raid in Lalmohan, Bhola. Acting on a tip-off, the Lalmohan Coast Guard outpost conducted a special operation around 3 a.m. on Wednesday (July 8) in an area near the Badarpur Dhumketu housing estate of the upazila.

Searching three suspected warehouses, the team seized 1,438,142 meters of banned current nets, with an estimated market value of about 50.3 million taka. Those involved with the nets fled the scene on sensing the Coast Guard’s presence, so no one could be detained. The seized nets were later destroyed in coordination with the Bhola district fisheries officer.

Lieutenant Md. Salman Bin Showkat, media officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard’s South Zone, confirmed the information in a press release. He said the Coast Guard’s regular operations to conserve the country’s fisheries resources and stop the use of illegal current nets would continue in the future.
