DHAKA — The four-day Police Week 2026 will begin Sunday, May 10, under the theme “My Police, My Country: Bangladesh First.” Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will open the event with the annual police parade at the Rajarbagh Police Lines grounds in the capital. He will inspect the parade, take the salute and distribute medals to award recipients. Police Week runs through May 13.
This year’s Police Week places special emphasis on improving the law-and-order situation, restoring public confidence and building technology-driven, modern policing. In his message, the prime minister said maintaining stable law and order is a precondition for democratic progress and development. He urged police to play a more effective role in restoring public trust.
The prime minister also directed police to act firmly against mob violence, teen gangs and the spread of narcotics. He said the development of the police force is directly tied to improvements in law and order and to national progress, and that the government considers police development an essential part of public safety.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin said in his message that the state’s stability and good governance depend in large part on the integrity, professionalism and discipline of the police. He said crime is becoming more complex and multifaceted in the information-technology era, and police must develop expertise in artificial intelligence, data analytics, CCTV surveillance and digital forensics to meet those challenges.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed called on police officers to become symbols of public trust and service. He said officers must bring real criminals to justice while taking the greatest care that no innocent person is harassed. The various working sessions of Police Week will review the past year’s activities and set the work plan for the year ahead. Home Ministry Senior Secretary Manzoor Morshed Chowdhury and Inspector General Mohammad Ali Hossain Fakir also issued separate messages.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar will command this year’s parade. Members of various units will take part in the ceremonial parade under his leadership.
The Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM), the President’s Police Medal (PPM) and various service-category medals will be awarded at the ceremony in recognition of bravery, valor, crime-fighting, the solving of important cases, professional skill and devotion to duty during 2025.
Ministers, members of Parliament, foreign diplomats and dignitaries from various walks of life are expected to attend.
