Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) chairman Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmad has been nominated by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance for the coming presidential election.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the 11-party alliance held around 11:30am on Sunday (9 August) at the home of the leader of the opposition and Jamaat-e-Islami Amir. National Citizen Party (NCP) convener and opposition chief whip Nahid Islam announced it later at a press briefing.
The meeting, chaired by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Shafiqur Rahman, was attended by the party’s secretary general Mia Golam Parwar and 11-party alliance coordinator Dr Hamidur Rahman Azad.
Others present included LDP’s Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmad, Jagpa’s Rashed Prodhan, Khelafat Majlis’s Mamunul Haque, NCP convener Nahid Islam and Nasiruddin Patwari.
Earlier, on Saturday (8 August) evening, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami announced its decision to take part in the country’s 23rd presidential election. That decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s central executive council at its central office in the capital’s Maghbazar.
