RANGAMATI — Activists of Chhatra Dal padlocked the vice chancellor’s office at Rangamati Science and Technology University on Tuesday, issuing a 48-hour ultimatum demanding his removal over allegations of irregularities and favoritism in teacher recruitment.
The announcement was made at a news conference outside the vice chancellor’s office on the campus on Tuesday, May 5.
Nasir Uddin Arnab, convenor of the Chhatra Dal university committee, read out a written statement at the briefing. Committee member-secretary Jishan Ahmed, Sharif Uddin and other leaders of the university committee were present.
Speakers at the news conference alleged that the current vice chancellor had appointed teachers of his choice without following rules, prioritizing political identity over qualifications and “turning the university into a Jamaat stronghold.” Speakers also accused him of placing Awami League-aligned teachers in various positions.
Chhatra Dal said the protest will continue until the vice chancellor steps down.
