A gang has allegedly attacked, vandalised and looted the offices of an online business called “Mango Lover” in Nawpara municipality, Poba upazila, Rajshahi. Two employees were injured in the incident. The business owner alleges the attack was led by a former local councillor.

According to the complaint, a group of people armed with local weapons, sticks and iron rods attacked the Mango Lover office at Nawpara College Mor late on Thursday night. The attackers damaged CCTV cameras, computers, furniture and other equipment at the premises.

Two employees at the office, Sakib and Tamim, attempted to stop the attack and were beaten with sticks and rods, sustaining serious injuries. Local people rescued them and arranged their admission to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Relatives and neighbours said both men sustained serious injuries to their hands and legs.

According to local and eyewitness accounts, a long-running family dispute between an employee named Ashik and his brother Rasel is believed to have been the trigger for Thursday night’s attack. Business owner Murad Parvez alleged that former councillor Md. Parvez led the assault, saying the attackers vandalised the office and took 1.5 million taka.

Murad Parvez further alleged that the former councillor had on various occasions demanded money from him. He said he was preparing to file a formal complaint over the attack. No comment from former councillor Md. Parvez was immediately available. Police had also not issued an official statement at the time of reporting.
