A charter plane crashed in Alaska, United States, killing eight people. The US Federal Aviation Administration said the plane had been headed to Cape Newenham, roughly 450 miles southwest of Anchorage. It crashed near its destination around 12:15 p.m. local time Thursday.

Clint Johnson, Alaska regional chief of the National Transportation Safety Board, said the charter flight, operated by Security Aviation, was carrying two pilots and six passengers.

Alaskan Command said it was a flight operated by a civilian contractor, carrying a total of eight people aboard. Rescue teams later reached the scene and confirmed there were no survivors.

According to the command’s statement, the plane crashed at Cape Newenham Airport. The airport is used as an Air Force runway and provides access to a long-range radar site.
