The most awaited event in world football, the FIFA World Cup 2026, is not far off. Excitement is building among fans worldwide, and Argentina supporters’ eyes are on Lionel Messi’s first match — but the reigning champions will have to wait a few days after the tournament starts.
The World Cup 2026 opens on June 11, with co-hosts Mexico facing South Africa in the opening match, after which the rest of the group stage gets under way in stages.
Argentina, in Group J, begin their campaign on June 17 against Algeria at the Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The match starts at 7:30 p.m. local time and can be watched at 7 a.m. Bangladesh time.
Argentina’s other two group matches are also in the United States — against Austria on June 22 and Jordan on June 28. If they reach the knockouts, Messi’s side will play in the round of 32 between July 1 and 4.
As part of their preparations, Argentina will play two friendlies before the World Cup — against Honduras in Texas on June 6 and Iceland in Alabama on June 9. Coach Lionel Scaloni announced his final 26-man squad on Thursday, with seven extra players kept for the warm-up matches.
